Read a Short Informational Passage

A brief factual text — a notice, a label, a set of instructions — followed by questions.

Read the notice. Then answer the questions.

Financial Aid Night and the March Deadline

The counseling office will hold Financial Aid Night on February 5, from six to eight o'clock in the cafeteria. Two advisers from the community college will help families start the federal aid application in person. Bring last year's tax return and, if you have one, a photo identification card. You do not need a Social Security number to attend, and staff can explain which state application to use instead.

Seniors who want the state grant must also have a verified grade point average submitted by March 2. The front office submits these automatically for any senior who files the federal application before February 20. A student who files after that date must request the submission in writing at the front office.

Question 1 of 5

Choose the best answer.

A senior files the federal aid application on February 25. According to the notice, what must that student do?

Question 2 of 5

Choose the best answer.

What does the notice say about students who do not have a Social Security number?

Read the guide. Then answer the question.

Registering to Vote Before You Turn Eighteen

In California you may pre-register to vote at sixteen. Pre-registration is not a vote. It holds your information until your eighteenth birthday, when the registration becomes active and a ballot is mailed to the address on file.

To pre-register you need a California driver's license or state identification number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you have neither, you may still submit the form and confirm your identity later.

Your registration follows the address you give, not the school you attend. Students who move away for college should update the address, because a ballot mailed to an old address will not be forwarded.

Question 3 of 5

Choose the best answer.

Why does the guide tell students who move away for college to update their address?

Read this page from a community college’s registration guide. Then answer the questions.

Adding a Class After the Semester Begins

Automatic enrollment from a class waitlist ends the day before the semester begins. After that, a student on the waitlist is not moved into the class, even if a seat opens. To add a class once the semester has started, attend the first class meeting and ask the instructor for an add code. Instructors give codes only to students who attend, and only when a seat is available.

An add code must be entered in the online registration system by the end of the second week of the semester. Codes expire after that point, even if they were never used. Fees for an added class are due within five days of enrolling, or the student is dropped from the class. High school students taking college classes must also upload an approval form signed by their high school counselor before an add code will be accepted.

Question 4 of 5

Choose the best answer.

On the first day of the semester, a student who is still on the waitlist for a class learns that a seat has opened. According to the guide, what should the student do?

Question 5 of 5

Choose the best answer.

According to the guide, what must a high school student do that other students do not have to do?

5 questions in this set are still unanswered. You can move on without answering them.
