Adding a Class After the Semester Begins
Automatic enrollment from a class waitlist ends the day before the semester begins. After that, a student on the waitlist is not moved into the class, even if a seat opens. To add a class once the semester has started, attend the first class meeting and ask the instructor for an add code. Instructors give codes only to students who attend, and only when a seat is available.
An add code must be entered in the online registration system by the end of the second week of the semester. Codes expire after that point, even if they were never used. Fees for an added class are due within five days of enrolling, or the student is dropped from the class. High school students taking college classes must also upload an approval form signed by their high school counselor before an add code will be accepted.
The question
Choose the best answer.
According to the guide, what must a high school student do that other students do not have to do?
- Upload an approval form signed by a high school counselor.Correct answer
- Attend the first class meeting before asking for an add code.
- Enter the add code by the end of the second week.
- Pay fees within five days of enrolling.
Why “Upload an approval form signed by a high school counselor.” is correct
This tests locating the one rule that applies to a specific group in a text where most rules apply to everyone. The final sentence names high school students and adds the counselor form 'also', meaning on top of the other steps. The other choices are real requirements, but the guide applies them to every student.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Attend the first class meeting before asking for an add code. — Every student adding a class must attend to receive a code; this is not specific to high school students.
- Enter the add code by the end of the second week. — The two-week deadline applies to all add codes.
- Pay fees within five days of enrolling. — The five-day fee deadline applies to anyone who adds a class.
