Jin had a wiggly tooth. It moved when he touched it.

At lunch, Jin ate a crunchy apple. Crunch! His tooth came out.

Jin put the tooth in his pocket. At home, he showed it to his mom.

Mom said, "Look at your big smile with a little hole in it!" Jin laughed and laughed.

The question

Read the question and the three answers aloud to your child.

What did Jin eat at lunch?

  • a sandwich
  • an appleCorrect answer
  • some soup

Why “an apple” is correct

The story names the apple and adds the sound "Crunch!", which is the moment the tooth comes out. Sounds like that help young listeners remember an event. If your child is stuck, ask "what made the crunch?"

Why the other answers are wrong

  • a sandwich — A sandwich is the most common lunch guess, but it is not in the story.
  • some soup — Soup does not crunch, and the story does not mention it.
