Lupe went to the park with her dad. They had a red kite.

The wind was strong. The kite went up, up, up into the sky.

Then the wind stopped. The kite fell down into a bush.

Dad pulled the kite out of the bush. Soon the wind came back, and the kite flew again.

The question

Read the question and the three answers aloud to your child.

Where did Lupe and her dad go?

  • to the parkCorrect answer
  • to the store
  • to the beach

Why “to the park” is correct

The setting is in the very first sentence of the story. Knowing where a story happens helps a child follow the rest of it, so it is worth asking about the place before any other question. If your child is unsure, play the first sentence again.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • to the store — A store is not a place to fly a kite, and the story does not mention one.
  • to the beach — People do fly kites at the beach, so this is a reasonable guess from experience, but the story says park.
