Library Day

Our class goes to the library on Tuesday. Bring your library book back. Put it in the blue box by the door. Then you may pick one new book.

The question

Choose the best answer.

Where do you put the book you bring back?

  • On the teacher's desk
  • In your backpack
  • In the blue box by the doorCorrect answer
  • On the library shelf

Why “In the blue box by the door” is correct

This is a find-the-detail question on a short classroom notice, and the answer is stated word for word in the sentence that begins 'Put it in'. The wrong answers are all places books really do live, which is what makes them tempting. If the child is stuck, have them hunt for the word 'box' in the notice and read that whole sentence aloud.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • On the teacher's desk — The notice never mentions a desk. Children often guess this because it is where classroom work usually goes.
  • In your backpack — The backpack is how the book gets to school, not where it goes once the child is there.
  • On the library shelf — Shelving is what a librarian does later; the notice gives students one place to put the book.
