Hello. My name is Ana. My report is about how a frog grows.

A frog starts as a tiny egg in a pond. A tadpole comes out of the egg. A tadpole has a tail and no legs. It lives in the water.

Then the tadpole grows back legs. Next it grows front legs. Its tail gets shorter and shorter.

At last it is a frog. Now it can hop on land and swim in the water too.

The question

Choose the best answer.

What does a tadpole have?

  • Four legs
  • A shell
  • A tail and no legsCorrect answer
  • Wings

Why “A tail and no legs” is correct

This is a detail question, and the detail is stated plainly: a tadpole has a tail and no legs. The trap is that the frog later grows legs, so a child thinking about the end of the report may say four legs. Ask your child what the tadpole looks like right after it comes out of the egg.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Four legs — The frog has four legs at the end. The tadpole has none at first.
  • A shell — Ana never mentions a shell. Frogs and tadpoles do not have one.
  • Wings — Wings are not in the report at all.
