Hello. My name is Ana. My report is about how a frog grows.

A frog starts as a tiny egg in a pond. A tadpole comes out of the egg. A tadpole has a tail and no legs. It lives in the water.

Then the tadpole grows back legs. Next it grows front legs. Its tail gets shorter and shorter.

At last it is a frog. Now it can hop on land and swim in the water too.

The question

Choose the best answer.

What is Ana's report mostly about?

  • Where ponds are
  • How a frog growsCorrect answer
  • How frogs catch food
  • Why frogs hop

Why “How a frog grows” is correct

Ana says her topic in her first sentence, and the rest of the report follows a frog from egg to adult. A main-idea question asks for the whole talk, not one part of it. Ask your child what Ana said her report was about, then check that every part of the talk fits.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Where ponds are — A pond is where the eggs are, but the report is not about ponds.
  • How frogs catch food — Food is never mentioned in the report.
  • Why frogs hop — Hopping comes up in one sentence at the end. It is a detail, not what the whole report is about.
