Lena went to the park with her big brother, Marco. She wanted to go down the tall slide. She climbed up the ladder, one step at a time.
At the top, Lena looked down. The slide looked very long. Her legs felt shaky, and she sat very still.
Marco called up to her. "I will wait at the bottom," he said. "I will catch you."
Lena took a big breath. She let go and slid down fast. Marco caught her at the bottom. Lena laughed and ran back to the ladder.
The question
Choose the best answer.
How did Lena feel at the end of the story?
- Sad
- Scared
- HappyCorrect answer
- Sleepy
Why “Happy” is correct
The feeling changes across the story, so the question asks about the end, not the middle. At the end Lena laughs and runs back to the ladder to go again, which shows she is happy. Ask your child what Lena did after she slid down, and what that tells you.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Sad — Lena laughs at the end. Nothing she does is sad.
- Scared — Lena was scared at the top, but that is the middle of the story. By the end she wants another turn.
- Sleepy — Lena runs back to the ladder, so she is full of energy, not sleepy.
