Lena went to the park with her big brother, Marco. She wanted to go down the tall slide. She climbed up the ladder, one step at a time.
At the top, Lena looked down. The slide looked very long. Her legs felt shaky, and she sat very still.
Marco called up to her. "I will wait at the bottom," he said. "I will catch you."
Lena took a big breath. She let go and slid down fast. Marco caught her at the bottom. Lena laughed and ran back to the ladder.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What did Marco say he would do?
- Climb up with Lena
- Wait at the bottom and catch herCorrect answer
- Push her down the slide
- Take her home
Why “Wait at the bottom and catch her” is correct
This checks a detail spoken by a character inside the story. Marco says two short sentences, 'I will wait at the bottom' and 'I will catch you,' and the answer joins them. On a second listen, ask your child to say Marco's words back in their own voice.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Climb up with Lena — Marco stays at the bottom. Lena is alone at the top.
- Push her down the slide — Lena lets go by herself. Marco is too far away to push her.
- Take her home — Nobody goes home in the story. Lena runs back to the ladder for another turn.
