Hi. My name is Rosa. I will tell you about baby ducks.

A baby duck is called a duckling. Ducklings hatch from eggs. They can swim on the first day.

Ducklings stay close to the mother duck. They walk behind her in a line. The mother keeps them safe.

The question

Choose the best answer.

What is a baby duck called?

  • A mother duck
  • An egg
  • A ducklingCorrect answer
  • A line

Why “A duckling” is correct

Short presentations define their key word in one sentence, usually right after the topic is announced, and this question checks that the child caught it. Tell the child that the first few sentences of a talk are the ones worth listening hardest to. Every wrong answer here is a word that appears somewhere else in the talk.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • A mother duck — The mother duck is in the talk, but she is the grown-up bird the ducklings follow.
  • An egg — Ducklings hatch from eggs, so an egg comes before the baby duck rather than being it.
  • A line — A line is how the ducklings walk behind their mother, not a name for a baby duck.
