Camila: Theo, I looked at the slides you made for our Central Valley project. You put the section on water first.
Theo: I figured water explains everything else, like why the farms are where they are.
Camila: That's exactly what I was going to say. I was worried you'd want to start with the crops.
Theo: Nope. Sounds like we're on the same page.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What does Theo mean when he says, "Sounds like we're on the same page"?
- They are both reading the same page of their textbook.
- They agree about how the slides should be organized.Correct answer
- They need to fit all of their information onto one slide.
- Camila should move the water section to the end.
Why “They agree about how the slides should be organized.” is correct
This tests an idiom whose meaning comes from the conversation, not from the words. Camila says Theo's choice to start with water is "exactly what I was going to say", so when Theo says they are "on the same page" he means they agree. Ask the student what just happened in the conversation before deciding what the expression means.
Why the other answers are wrong
- They are both reading the same page of their textbook. — This reads the idiom literally; no textbook is mentioned.
- They need to fit all of their information onto one slide. — The conversation is about the order of the slides, not about squeezing everything onto one.
- Camila should move the water section to the end. — Camila agrees that water should come first, so she does not want it moved.
