Class Garden Jobs
Our class has three garden jobs. The Waterer fills the can and waters the beds on Monday and Thursday. The Weeder pulls weeds on Friday. The Picker takes ripe tomatoes to the kitchen. Sign your name on the chart before you start a job.
The question
Choose the best answer.
Which job is done on Friday?
- The Waterer
- The WeederCorrect answer
- The Picker
- All three jobs
Why “The Weeder” is correct
Short informational texts at this grade are often charts and lists, and reading across a row to match a job with a day is the skill being checked. Two of the three job names begin with 'W', which makes a quick scan unreliable. Have the child find the word 'Friday' first and then read backwards to the start of that sentence.
Why the other answers are wrong
- The Waterer — The Waterer works on Monday and Thursday. The name looks very like 'Weeder', which is the trap here.
- The Picker — The Picker's job has no day attached to it at all; it happens whenever tomatoes are ripe.
- All three jobs — Only one job is tied to Friday. The chart gives each job its own timing.
