The question

Read the four sentences. Choose the one that best describes the picture.

Which sentence best describes the picture?

  • A truck carries a load of rocks down the road.
  • A truck carries long logs down the road.Correct answer
  • A bus full of people drives down the road.
  • A truck stops next to a pile of logs on the ground.

Why “A truck carries long logs down the road.” is correct

In Read and Choose a Sentence every choice is a real sentence, so the child has to check each part of it against the picture: what the thing is, what it is doing, and what it is carrying. Two choices name a truck and two mention logs, but only one puts the logs on a moving truck. Have your child check the sentence piece by piece — truck? logs? on the road?

Why the other answers are wrong

  • A truck carries a load of rocks down the road. — The truck and the road are right, but the load is logs, not rocks.
  • A bus full of people drives down the road. — The back has no roof, and the only person is the driver. It is carrying logs, not riders.
  • A truck stops next to a pile of logs on the ground. — The logs are stacked inside the truck, and the truck is driving, not stopped.
