Read image description

Two boys stand at a kitchen sink. Water runs from the tap. One boy holds a wet plate. The other boy dries a cup with a towel.

The question

Read the four sentences. Choose the one that best describes the picture.

Which sentence best describes the picture?

  • The boys eat lunch at a table.
  • One boy fills a glass with water.
  • The boys sweep the kitchen floor.
  • The boys wash and dry the dishes.Correct answer

Why “The boys wash and dry the dishes.” is correct

Three of the choices name things that really do happen in a kitchen, so the child cannot pick by topic alone and has to check the actual action. This is the main skill the task builds: a sentence must match every part of the picture, not just the setting. Ask the child to point to the line of the description that proves each sentence right or wrong.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • The boys eat lunch at a table. — Eating fits a kitchen, but the boys are standing at the sink and there is no food or table in the picture.
  • One boy fills a glass with water. — Water is running in the picture, but it is being used to wash a plate, not to fill a glass for drinking.
  • The boys sweep the kitchen floor. — Sweeping is a kitchen chore, but no broom appears and the boys are holding a plate and a cup.
