Mr. Chan: Imani, you are the weather helper today. Please look out the window.

Imani: The sky is gray, and the ground is wet.

Mr. Chan: Is it raining right now?

Imani: No, the rain stopped. But there are lots of clouds.

Mr. Chan: Then which picture should go on our weather chart?

Imani: The cloud picture. I will put it next to the word Thursday.

The question

Choose the best answer.

What is Imani's job today?

  • She is the line leader.
  • She is the weather helper.Correct answer
  • She waters the plants.
  • She passes out the papers.

Why “She is the weather helper.” is correct

Mr. Chan names Imani's job in his very first sentence, and everything after that is Imani doing it. Children sometimes lose the opening line once a conversation gets going, so this checks they caught it. Ask your child what Mr. Chan calls Imani at the start.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • She is the line leader. — Line leader is a common class job, but it is not mentioned here.
  • She waters the plants. — The ground is wet from rain, but nobody waters anything.
  • She passes out the papers. — Imani puts a picture on the chart; she does not pass anything out to the class.
