Camila: Jamal, we have to sort these blocks.
Jamal: Let's put them in groups by color.
Camila: Ms. Reed said to sort them by shape.
Jamal: Oh, right. I will take the circles and the squares.
Camila: Then I will take the triangles. Let's count them when we are done.
The question
Choose the best answer.
Which blocks will Camila sort?
- The circles
- The squares
- The red blocks
- The trianglesCorrect answer
Why “The triangles” is correct
The two children split the job, and the question asks which part Camila takes. Jamal names his shapes first and Camila takes what is left, so the child has to keep each name with its job. Replay the last two lines and have your child say 'Jamal: circles and squares. Camila: triangles.'
Why the other answers are wrong
- The circles — Jamal says he will take the circles.
- The squares — Jamal takes the squares as well as the circles.
- The red blocks — The blocks are sorted by shape, not by color, and no color is named.
