Mia walked to school in her new boots. Rain fell all night. A big puddle sat by the gate.
Mia stopped. She wanted to jump in it. Then she saw her friend Sam. Sam's shoes were thin.
Mia took Sam's hand. They walked around the puddle.
At lunch, Mia jumped in the puddle by herself.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What did Mia do at lunch?
- She stayed inside.
- She walked around the puddle again.
- She got new boots.
- She jumped in the puddle.Correct answer
Why “She jumped in the puddle.” is correct
This is a sequence question: the story holds Mia's jump back until the final sentence, so the child has to keep events in order rather than pick the first thing they remember. Counting events on fingers during a second listen works well at this age — walked to school, saw the puddle, saw Sam, walked around, then jumped.
Why the other answers are wrong
- She stayed inside. — The story never says Mia stayed indoors; the puddle is by the gate, outside.
- She walked around the puddle again. — Walking around the puddle is what happened in the morning, when Sam was with her.
- She got new boots. — Mia already has new boots at the start of the story. Nothing new is bought.
