Listen to an Oral Presentation · ELPAC Kindergarten listening. The correct answer, and the reasoning behind it.

A presentation on an academic topic, followed by three or four questions.

Sit with your child. This is a short talk about turtles, like one a teacher would give. Before you play it, tell your child that a shell is the hard part on a turtle's back. Then play the talk and read each question and its three answers aloud.

Today I will tell you about turtles.

A turtle has a hard shell on its back. The shell keeps the turtle safe.

When a turtle is scared, it pulls its head into its shell.

Some turtles live in the water. Some turtles live on land. On land, turtles move slowly.

The question

Read the question and the three answers aloud to your child.

How do turtles move on land?

  • slowlyCorrect answer
  • fast
  • by flying

Why “slowly” is correct

This fact is the very last thing in the talk: "On land, turtles move slowly." Many children already know this, which is fine — the item still checks that what they heard matches. Have your child move slowly like a turtle and then fast, and ask which one the talk said.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • fast — Fast is the opposite of what the talk says.
  • by flying — Turtles do not fly. A child who picks this may not have caught the last sentence at all.
