A brief factual text — a notice, a label, a set of instructions — followed by questions.
Read the notice. Then answer the questions.
New Water Bottle Station
Our school has a new water bottle filling station next to the gym doors. Hold your bottle under the spout and the water will start by itself. A green light means the water filter is working. If the light turns red, please tell the front office so the filter can be changed. Only water bottles may be filled at the station. Please fill cups at the drinking fountain by the cafeteria.
The question
Choose the best answer.
According to the notice, what should a student do if the light on the station turns red?
- Fill the bottle at the drinking fountain instead
- Hold the bottle closer to the spout
- Wait for the light to turn green again
- Tell the front office so the filter can be changedCorrect answer
Why “Tell the front office so the filter can be changed” is correct
This tests finding one rule inside a short notice. The notice says, "If the light turns red, please tell the front office so the filter can be changed." The word "if" marks the situation in the question, so the answer is in the same sentence. The other choices are things a student might sensibly try, but the notice does not tell students to do them.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Fill the bottle at the drinking fountain instead — The drinking fountain is where the notice says to fill cups, not what to do about a red light.
- Hold the bottle closer to the spout — The notice says the water starts by itself; it says nothing about moving the bottle.
- Wait for the light to turn green again — Waiting is never suggested. A red light means the filter needs changing, which someone has to report.
