Jamal: Hana, have you seen my green water bottle? I had it at soccer practice yesterday.

Hana: I saw a green one on the bench by the field after practice. I thought it was Coach Lin's.

Jamal: Did it have a sticker of a whale on it?

Hana: Yes, it did. Coach Lin always takes anything left on the bench to the lost-and-found box in the gym. You should look there before class.

Where will Jamal most likely find his water bottle?

  • On the bench by the soccer field
  • In Hana's backpack
  • In the lost-and-found box in the gymCorrect answer
  • In Coach Lin's office

Why “In the lost-and-found box in the gym” is correct

This is an inference question: nobody says exactly where the bottle is now, so the student has to put two facts together. Hana saw the bottle on the bench, and she adds that Coach Lin "always takes anything left on the bench to the lost-and-found box in the gym." The words "most likely" in the question are the signal that the answer comes from combining details rather than from a single line.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • On the bench by the soccer field — The bench is where Hana saw the bottle after practice, but she explains that the coach clears the bench.
  • In Hana's backpack — Hana saw the bottle but never says she picked it up.
  • In Coach Lin's office — Hana says Coach Lin takes things to the lost-and-found box in the gym, not to an office.
