Kai: Nadia, are you going to the book fair at lunch?
Nadia: I want to, but I only brought enough money for one book.
Kai: The library has a free table this year. The books on it are used, but you can take one home.
Nadia: Then I'll buy the new one and take a free one too.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What will Nadia do at the book fair?
- Buy one book and take one free bookCorrect answer
- Take two free books
- Buy two books
- Borrow a book from the library
Why “Buy one book and take one free book” is correct
The answer is a plan that Nadia forms in the last line by combining two pieces of information: her own money and what Kai has just told her. This is a step beyond simple recall, because no single sentence contains the whole answer. Replay the exchange and ask what Nadia could do at the start, what Kai adds, and what she decides.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Take two free books — Kai says a student may take one book from the free table, and Nadia also has money for a new one.
- Buy two books — Nadia says at the start that she has only brought enough money for one book.
- Borrow a book from the library — The library is mentioned because it runs the free table, where books are kept rather than borrowed.
