Bees and Flowers

Bees are small. They fly from flower to flower. A bee drinks sweet juice from a flower. We call this juice nectar.

Yellow dust sticks to the bee's legs. This dust is called pollen. The bee takes the pollen to the next flower. That helps new flowers grow.

Bees take the nectar back home. They make honey with it. People eat the honey too.

The question

Choose the best answer.

How do bees help new flowers grow?

  • They drink the nectar.
  • They make honey.
  • They fly very fast.
  • They carry pollen to other flowers.Correct answer

Why “They carry pollen to other flowers.” is correct

The passage names two things bees move around, nectar and pollen, and only one of them is linked to new flowers. That makes this a question about matching a cause to the right effect rather than simply recalling a fact. Have the child find the sentence containing the word 'grow' and read the sentence just before it.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • They drink the nectar. — Bees do drink nectar, but the passage connects nectar to honey, not to new flowers.
  • They make honey. — Honey is what bees make at home from the nectar; it is not how flowers spread.
  • They fly very fast. — The passage never says how fast bees fly, and speed has nothing to do with new flowers.
