Ms. Reed: Hector, look at our bean plant. It looks droopy today.
Hector: The leaves are hanging down. Is it sick?
Ms. Reed: I think it is thirsty. When did we water it last?
Hector: On Monday. Today is Thursday.
Ms. Reed: That is a long time. Can you give it one cup of water?
Hector: Yes. Then I will move it next to the window so it gets some sun.
The question
Choose the best answer.
What will Hector do after he waters the plant?
- Move it next to the windowCorrect answer
- Give it another cup of water
- Plant some new bean seeds
- Water it again on Monday
Why “Move it next to the window” is correct
This is a sequence question. Hector's last line has two steps joined by 'Then': first water, then move the plant to the window. Ask your child to say both steps in order, and point out that 'then' tells you what comes next.
Why the other answers are wrong
- Give it another cup of water — Ms. Reed asks for one cup of water. Nobody says to give it a second cup.
- Plant some new bean seeds — New seeds are never mentioned. The conversation is about the plant they already have.
- Water it again on Monday — Monday is when the plant was last watered. It is not a plan for what comes next.
